Where to Stay in Zaragoza: The Best Neighborhoods and Hotels
Visiting Zaragoza is always a pleasure. The capital of Aragon is the only major Spanish city that isn’t overly touristic. You can stroll through its Old Town without rushing or fighting for photo spots.
The city offers a lot. One of Spain’s most impressive churches is here: the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. You’ll also find wonderful Mudejar architecture (UNESCO-listed) and impressive contemporary buildings.
When in Zaragoza, you should stay in or around the Old Town. We suggest four centrally located neighborhoods where most attractions are. Naturally, the city’s best hotels are here too.
Casco Antiguo (Old Town)
Casco Antiguo, the Old Town of Zaragoza, is the oldest part of the city. The Roman settlement of Caesaraugusta was founded here in 14 AD. During the Middle Ages, the area was home to the Muslim Medina.
Most of Zaragoza’s main sights are located here, including the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, the Cathedral of the Savior (La Seo), and the Caesaraugusta Theatre Museum.
It’s also the most touristic part of the city, though full of charm. The oldest shop (La Flor de AlmÃbar), the oldest restaurant (Casa Lac), and many of the city’s best museums are all here.

Catalonia El Pilar
The charming Catalonia El Pilar is our favorite hotel in the Old Town. The stunning Art Nouveau palace offers modern rooms, some with excellent views.
Hotel Sauce
The Hotel Sauce is probably the best value for money in the Old Town. Just two minutes from the main square, it offers comfortable rooms in an elegant setting.
San Pablo (El Gancho)
San Pablo is the historic neighborhood west of the Old Town. It was laid out in the 12th century after the Christian reconquest of the city.
The neighborhood is named after the Parish Church of San Pablo, its most important landmark. The contemporary IAACC Pablo Serrano Museum and the Mudejar AljaferÃa Palace are within walking distance.
Stay in San Pablo if you enjoy authentic local atmosphere and like exploring on foot. The Delicias main station is only 20 minutes away and the Expo area about 30 minutes.

The Hesperia Zaragoza Centro is an affordable option located between the Old Town and the AljaferÃa Palace. You can get anywhere in no time.
La Magdalena
La Magdalena is another historic neighborhood bordering the Old Town. Originally within the medieval city walls, it later expanded toward the Huerva River and beyond.
The neighborhood is named after the Church of Santa MarÃa Magdalena, one of the finest examples of Mudejar architecture. The Real Seminario de San Carlos Borromeo is another important landmark.
If you enjoy multicultural areas with a more alternative vibe, stay in La Magdalena. It’s also the greenest neighborhood in the city center.

Centro
Centro is the modern heart of Zaragoza. It is the early 20th-century expansion area (Ensanche) south of the Old Town.

This is the city’s main financial and business hub. Thus, it’s the best area to stay if you are here for work.

How Long to Stay in Zaragoza
Zaragoza is an ideal place to experience Spanish culture. The city has excellent bars and restaurants, and locals truly know how to enjoy life.
If your goal is to visit the main sights, two days are enough: one full day for the Old Town and another for the rest of the highlights.
If you have an extra day, consider a trip to Huesca, Teruel, or AlbarracÃn, perfect for discovering authentic Spain without the crowds.
